Commenting on the latest announcement that Lloyds-HBOS are to cut up to a further 60 jobs in Scotland as a direct result of the companies' merger, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott MSP said:

"Lloyds workers in Scotland must be disappointed that Alex Salmond and his ministers haven't had the nerve to stand up to the big banks and campaign against these cuts in the same way they have for Diageo. Where are they?

"Hundreds of banking jobs have now been lost in Scotland as a result of this merger and Mr Salmond hasn't been marching up the Mound. Why not?

"Alistair Darling and Gordon Brown forced through the Lloyds-HBOS merger. So far they have taken no responsibility for these ongoing job losses and the Scottish Government simply stand aside with every drip-drip loss of more vital posts."
